Food Summit

I lost my appetite for it once the birthday greetings co-mingled with the wish lists orated by stakeholders. Those who were given the chance to speak were obviously part of the DA’s extended family.

Poorly-scripted with technical glitches here and there, the entire program reeked of sycophancy – except now it was Speaker Nograles, not JDV, seated beside the President. Oh Artie! Why couldn’t you have just gone for a round table discussion with the experts in the morning and an open, spontaneous town hall meeting with stakeholders especially the small farmers, in the afternoon?

This is why government’s credibility is so low. It can’t even put on an interesting show. Let’s just hope that the one-day summit actually leads to a concrete, cohesive plan of action with measurable milestones and appropriate budgetary support and accountability. Because the sad part is long before the show is over, the high price of rice will still be here.
