mother

mother

May 12

mother, am i

you in the cosmos of time,

you in the twin of a wink of

random consciousness?

Am I you pretending to be free?

Or am I free to attempt to be you?

And if it seems that I avoid you,

is it because of the memory long forgotten

of how you tried, but failed, to

make me you?

It cannot be, you see.

I am far too much like you

to even want to become you.

And you are too different from me,

to even understand that lost in this poem,

in the lyrics of a sparrow’s silent song,

is the hurtful yearning to be free,

to be me,

without the fear, the sadness,

and the guilt of you.

    Raising Estelle

    Sis!
That was a very nice poem you made. I have known you as a good friend for a long time but I would like to commend you for being a wonderful mother to Estelle. During the time that I was with Estelle one spring time in Boston, I had noticed how you have done a great job in raising her up. She has grown up to be a well mannered, sweet adorable kid with a very strong character. I have always been amazed with the fact that she isn’t like any other spoiled brat kid that we often see around ( although she has all reason to act that way considering the stature of her late grandfather.)

Last time I saw her, she still carried her sweet smile saying “Hi Tita! how are you?” I can’t help but wonder “how did toots make her to be like that? ” But it is not about Estelle ..it is about you and how you did a terrific job in raising her.

I guess, I have to learn a lot from you sis in motherhood 101 :)

    Happy Mothers Day!

Beautiful. Very thought provoking. I’d love to know what feelings lie behind it. I think I agree with the ‘pretending to be free’.

  6. thanks, Matt!
