Overseas Absentee Voting registration ends next month

Sep 24

OFWs and Filipinos living abroad unite!

You have until end of October to register as absentee voters at the Philippine Embassy or Consulate nearest you. All it takes is for you to bring your passport and fill up the OAV form. This will be sent to the Comelec in Manila for processing and inclusion in the voters’ registration list. You will be then notified in due time once your application has been approved.

As of September 21, the number of new registrants is quite dismal at 120,722. In 2004, about 233,092 overseas absentee voters cast their ballots out of 364,187 registrants.

The first OAV voter on record is Captain Brigido Sevilla of San Juan, Batangas who voted on March 12 in Brunei.

Here is a list of the Top Ten Posts based on number of new registrants as of September 21:

1. HongKong – 4,952
2. Riyadh – 3,657
3. Dubai – 3,389

7. Brunei – 1,828
8. Al Khobar – 1,593
9. Washington – 1,518
